About the Job
An international organization with an office in Accra, Ghana, seeks to hire a Resource Development and Communication Manager who will report to the National Director. The ideal candidate will be expected to:
- Develop relations with the media and serve as the organization’s media contact
- Initiate, develop, implement, monitor and evaluate fundraising strategies with the overall objective of ensuring that the organization is well resourced from bilateral and multilateral donors, philanthropic foundations, and other sources to meet its objectives.
- Maintain consistent and constant communication with past and present donors through thank you letters, newsletters, reports or other communication media
- Oversee the management of a donor database, track donations and donors and recognize all donors (repeat donors, major donors etc) as appropriate
- Determine and manage donor funding cycles, policies and conditionality and determine donor’s fiduciary, legal, audit and financial reporting requirements and ensure full and timely compliance with requirements
- Provide training/capacity building to the organization’s staff on project based funding mechanisms, developing network agency contacts for future funding submissions
- Manage a positive public image of the organization by engaging local and international media on the work the organization is doing, developing op.eds for the organization and representing the organization in forums that align with the organization’s mission and vision
- Assist the organization with writing and placement of articles in newspapers, business and publications on web pages; drafting of donor reports and year-end annual reports.
- Manage and maintain a constantly updated website of the organization to communicate to the wider public on the organization’s mission and vision and get as many as can to engage practically with the organization
- Initiate contacts with CSR officers and CEOs of companies in Ghana and cultivating interest, giving and participation in the activities of the organization
- Provide leadership and mentoring to staff in the Resource Development and Communication Department. The successful candidate will also be a member of the Ghana senior management team, contribute to the corporate decision making process and work with the team to develop a comprehensive communications/marketing plan for the organization
- Develop a staffing strategy in the country program, including the hiring and training of qualified local staff to carry out the responsibility of implementing communications and resource development activities
Key Qualifications and Skills
- A master’s degree in International Development, Communication or Marketing
- Five to 10 years' of proven hands on experience in fundraising, public relations and communication at a managerial level
- Excellent writing and verbal communications skills (well developed concept development and proposal writing skills)
- Ability to build and maintain key networks that could help in the organization’s fundraising efforts
- Ability to work long and odd hours, including weekends and nights
- Ability to effectively work under tight deadlines and manage projects independently
- Excellent people skills and the ability to work across cultures
- Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail
- Strong computer skills
- Strong work ethics
